    Dr. Onkarappa K S

Director, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences

    Welcome from the Director

I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you at the School of Mathematical and Physical Science We are excited to begin our academic journey at a recently founded university in the Mid-Karnataka region in the academic year 2024–2025. On behalf of the school, I would like to start by congratulating you for being admitted to GM University’s School of Mathematical and Physical Science. The GM Campus’s School of Mathematical and Physical Science (SMPS) is a division of the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences (FBAS). It offers three professional B.Sc. (Honours) courses in, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics.

The school provides a variety of programmes and research opportunities in order to acquire and cultivate core knowledge. For students interested in academic or technical fields, we offer B.Sc. programmes in, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics at the undergraduate level. Additionally, for individuals who are interested in pursuing post-graduate studies in the fields of Mathematical and Physical Science, we offer an M.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics, we also promise to conduct multidisciplinary, contextual, need-based, socially relevant, and translational research of the highest calibre at our departments, which may address some of the major issues in the basic and applied sciences in these streams. We are also creating R&D departments to encourage students to engage in research activities in these areas.

I wish you all the best for future endeavor.

    Regards,

    Dr. Onkarappa K S

    Dr. Prasanna BMR

Head of Department, Department of Mathematics,

    Welcome from Head of Mathematics

Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at GM University, an essential pillar of the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences (FBAS). Mathematics is often called the language of science, and our department is committed to advancing this language by nurturing abstract thinking, logical reasoning, and analytical skills in our students.

Our vision is to empower learners with the ability to model, analyze, and solve complex problems that arise in science, technology, and society. Mathematics, being both an art and a science, develops precision, creativity, and intellectual discipline—qualities that prepare students not only for academic pursuits but also for diverse professional pathways in industry, finance, data science, education, and research.

The curriculum we offer combines a strong foundation in pure mathematics—algebra, analysis, geometry, and topology—with wide-ranging applications in computational mathematics, statistics, operations research, and mathematical modeling. This balance ensures that students gain both theoretical depth and practical insight, equipping them to contribute to cutting-edge developments in areas such as artificial intelligence, cryptography, climate modeling, and quantitative finance.

Our faculty members are actively engaged in research across various branches of mathematics and are deeply committed to mentoring students. We encourage independent exploration through problem-solving workshops, research projects, mathematical competitions, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Through these opportunities, students develop intellectual resilience, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning.

Looking ahead, the Department of Mathematics aims to foster a vibrant academic community where curiosity meets rigor, and where abstract ideas find real-world relevance. Whether your passion lies in advancing mathematical theory or applying mathematics to contemporary challenges, our department offers a supportive environment to pursue your aspirations.

We warmly invite you to be part of this journey in the pursuit of knowledge, discovery, and innovation.

    Warm regards,

    Dr. Prasanna BMR
